Designing a Central Hub to Improving Observability and Validation of issues

RISE with SAP on Azure is the fastest, most efficient way for businesses to modernize their SAP systems in the cloud. However, managing critical workloads during this transition requires user attention.I collaborated with the team to visualize the future experience and develop a clear strategy to gain stakeholder buy-in.
Project summary
Problem
How might we enable users to efficiently identify, diagnose, and resolve system issues with speed and accuracy?
Final outcome
Developed a centralized hub to improve observability by aggregating multiple data sources, providing real-time updates, and enabling users to quickly identify root causes and resolve issues efficiently.

Context
Design sprints
Prior to design, we identified two key user groups, which are ECS Ops Engineers and Microsoft Support Engineers.

As part of the design sprint, I collaborated with the team to map expected user goals into an end-to-end journey, categorizing into two key themes to include to the design exploration:
  • Observability“I need real-time visibility into issues, understand their cause and impact, and determine the appropriate response.”
  • Continuous Validation“I need to manage configuration checks for my workload and detect any drifts to ensure system health.”
Opportunities
The primary user goals we aimed to support were:
  • Investigating Issues – Enabling users to efficiently diagnose and understand system issues.
  • Configuring Validation Checks – Allowing users to create templates and customize checks for configuration validation.
  • Managing Configuration Drifts – Helping users track, detect, and resolve configuration inconsistencies.
Solution
Interactive Tree View for Issue Detection
Implemented an interactive Tree UI for a clear, high-level view of system landscape and health. A structured table below displays system statuses, updating dynamically based on tree selection. This setup enables quick issue detection, efficient troubleshooting, and better visibility into dependencies for informed decision-making.
